Running from Nineveh

Standard

Have you ever had a moment where God called you to do something and you were hesitant to do what He wanted? Maybe it was because of a fear of the unknown outcome. Maybe you were hesitant because you didn’t know how another person would react. The reason could have been simply you just didn’t want to do it. I want to let you know this isn’t just you facing these situations. Did you know there is someone in the Bible that faced a similar situation?

You probably have heard the story of Jonah and the whale. It’s a story that many churches share to the children. I have grown up hearing this story many times, but it didn’t really resonate with me until the past year or two. I was in a season where God called me to do something specific. He put a calling on my heart, and to be honest I didn’t know what to do with it.

My initial reaction was similar to Jonah. I had came up with every excuse in the book to not do what God called me to do. I was scared of it. I didn’t know the outcome. I felt like I would make a fool of myself and I would fail. These were just insecurities of mine though.

Now I will be the first to admit that there were consequences of me disobeying God and running from what He has called me to do. I went through a season where I was at rock bottom and had months where I was depressed. Luckily, due to God’s grace I wasn’t swallowed by a whale, but I should or could have been. And if you have been in a similar situation, then you should or could have too.

Though now I want to declare I am done running from my Nineveh. I’m going to obey and follow God in what he has called me to do. It might have been delayed obedience, but I am committed to following and trusting God to provide the answers and to give me directions.

Lastly, I share this to encourage you to do that thing that scares you or that you have been hesitant to do. God is not going to leave you. He will meet you where you are at, and He will show you the way. If you felt like this resonated with you, then feel free to contact me to discuss this further. I am always a listening ear.
