Recently I have I faced obstacles that I didn’t expect. The plan was to leave for Charlotte, NC for the summer. Unfortunately it didn’t turn out as I expected, and I ended up deciding to go home for the summer. I was very disappointed about the situation, because I have been looking forward to being in Charlotte. I thought it would be nice to get away from home. I currently live in the same town that my college is, and it’s not the same here when all the students go home.
There are two options for how to react to a disappointing situation. First, you can be bitter about the situation. You can just give up all hope and not do anything to make the situation better. This option is very easy to fall into. I struggle with this myself. I like to plan everything ahead of time, and if something happens that doesn’t go with my original plan I struggle with being ok with the unknown.
BUT instead of the previous reaction you can turn to God and have faith that he will bring something good out of the situation. Though it hurts right now I know God will provide an opportunity to do something else this summer. I may not know what it is at this time, but I continue to believe that God will bring something for me to do. I know that he’s not going to let me do nothing this summer, and even if he doesn’t bring anything new to do I will enjoy the opportunity to have no major plans for the summer.
