To the Guy that Never Became Mine

Standard

DISCLAIMER: I’m sure you’ll never read this. I’m not writing this so you will. I’m writing this for myself and possibly other girls who read this.

At first I thought you were out of my league. I thought there would be no chance you would like me. I tried at first to be just friends, but as I started to know you more I quickly realized that I could never be just friends with you.

As the years go by the book of my life with you started getting filled with pages and at times chapters. Some of my favorite memories of high school had to do with you.

As we got into in college, and you were still in my life I still hoped things would work out between us. At first I kept coming up with excuses as to why you never asked me out, but I started to run out of the excuses. I had to come to terms with the fact of that day never coming.

It has been hard to move on from you. I don’t think it’s possible to have liked you for 5 years and be able to get over it quickly. At one point I thought I’d never get over you, but I am finally getting to a point of being able to.

And lastly though I want to thank you. I want to thank you for the good times we shared. You’ve made me realize that I am stronger than I thought. At times you showed me what a relationship should look like, but you’ve also showed me what a relationship shouldn’t look like. I pray that you find another girl that makes you happier than you were with me.

And with all that being said I want to officially close that book and say goodbye. I am hopeful that someone else will come along, and I look forward to writing another book with whomever that may be.

Take 2

Facing the Unexpected

Standard

Recently I have I faced obstacles that I didn’t expect. The plan was to leave for Charlotte, NC for the summer. Unfortunately it didn’t turn out as I expected, and I ended up deciding to go home for the summer. I was very disappointed about the situation, because I have been looking forward to being in Charlotte. I thought it would be nice to get away from home. I currently live in the same town that my college is, and it’s not the same here when all the students go home.

There are two options for how to react to a disappointing situation. First, you can be bitter about the situation. You can just give up all hope and not do anything to make the situation better. This option is very easy to fall into. I struggle with this myself. I like to plan everything ahead of time, and if something happens that doesn’t go with my original plan I struggle with being ok with the unknown.

BUT instead of the previous reaction you can turn to God and have faith that he will bring something good out of the situation. Though it hurts right now I know God will provide an opportunity to do something else this summer. I may not know what it is at this time, but I continue to believe that God will bring something for me to do. I know that he’s not going to let me do nothing this summer, and even if he doesn’t bring anything new to do I will enjoy the opportunity to have no major plans for the summer.

Scripture References

  • “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” ~Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
  • “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” ~Colossians 3:23-24 NIV
  • “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” ~1 John 5:13-14
